I had a lovely Saturday morning...
Mar. 17th, 2007 07:41 pm...horseback riding in the nearby State forest. I haven't sat on a horse in over ten years, and back then I was doing dressage riding, which typically left me exhausted and perspiring heavily while the horse had hardly broken a sweat. This morning's ride, however, was a totally different experience - and a lovely one (although the Western saddle was less comfortable than the English saddles I'm used to).
I had the good fortune of being on a very even-tempered, well-behaved Arabian mare who seemed to like being outside the paddock but didn't feel the need to move more quickly than the occasional trot when the others were getting a little farther away than she was comfortable with. It was very enjoyable, especially since we had nice sunny weather.
The strange thing is that although I didn't do anything but be carried around for one and a half hour, I can feel the muscles in my arms and back and even my belly! I'm prepared for severe soreness in my thighs because of the stretch, but it'll be interesting to see how the rest of me feels tomorrow.
