She's a controversial conservative radio and television host, she misrepresents herself as a psychologist (her PhD is in physiology), and she completely reversed herself on gay relationships (from pro- to anti-) in 1997. The impetus behind the letter you quote is the fact that Schlessinger is a convert to Orthodox Judaism, who often relies on Jewish morality to "help" her callers, even when they are not Jewish. It isn't terribly apropos to redirect it to Meyer, who is a Christian Fundamentalist.
